Shelley Signs work with a wide variety of timber to produce stunning outdoor signs for a number of different organisations, from parks and nature reserves to school and businesses. There are many types of signs to choose from depending on our client’s individual requirements, through our years as a successful sign company we have discovered there is a large demand for entrance signs, directional signs and plaques to allow rules and bye-laws to be enforced. One of our most popular styles of signs is a routed timber sign, this type of sign is not only very attractive but sympathetic to its surroundings.

To produce routed timber signs specialist equipment called Computer Numerically Controlled routers are required. At Shelley Signs, our highly skilled production teams use two types of these particular routers, the Pacer and the AXYZ. Both of these routers provide a high level of versatility and flexibility, which until several years ago was not possible. Using these specialist routers it allows us to produce signs in many different shapes ranging from, round, oval, banners and shields not only can we produce these shapes but these routers allow us to produce any bespoke shape imaginable that our client requires.

Clients who require routed signs can choose from two different types of text, the text can be either indented or text that will stand proud of the sign background. With the equipment that we use our clients can also benefit from having signs with raised borders on the edge of the sign or inset from the edge.

Our client’s location of the sign generally depicts what type of timber would be best to use, we use a variety of wood including Oak, Cedar, Cedar of Lebanon, Douglas Fir, Spruce and Larch all are purchased from Forestry Stewardship Council suppliers meaning that all our timber is felled under a managed environment allowing the trees to either grow back naturally or be replaced.

Our clients can rest assured that if they are unsure what type of sign to choose for their particular location, our highly trained and experienced team will be able to help them with their choice by providing them with advice as to which type of sign would suit the certain location, ensuring that the desired effect from the intended sign is reached. Not every sign is suitable for every location, for example, if you require a sign displaying bye-laws or rules it is best to choose a sign with an attractive design that will stand out from its surroundings, whilst still being sympathetic to its surroundings, this type of sign needs to be inviting to the visitors to ensure that they will not only approach the sign but read it and obey the rules and laws displayed on it.
