Overview of Product

Clients searching the internet for wooden signs are faced with a wide range of search phrases and widely different results. Shelley Signs produce outdoor wood signs that can be described as the grain signs, cedar signs, natural signs, and green oak signs. All off these products can be produced using sandblast techniques or CNC routing. Handpainted or hand-painted wood signs add a further option to the product range.

Technical Spec

Sandblasted timber signs or signs produced using a sandblast production process can be made with Douglas Fir, Cedar or Oak. This production method enhances and exposes the grain of the sign and leaves text and graphics standing proud of the timber grain. Oak signs or natural signs which have been carved, routed or sandblasted or engraved can be finished with a stain or oil which helps to enhance the natural appearance of the sign.
Natural sandblasted or routed signs are ideal for schools and golf courses where they are ideal as golf entrance signs, tee markers and direction signs.

The engraving processes used by Shelley Signs on cedar, oak, douglas fir as well as other softwoods and hardwood creates an interesting natural oak sign which can show the grain of the timber.

Rustic signs can be produced in a selection of Cedar, douglas fir, oak and larch. The overall appearance will be dictated by the expectation of the client but our varied sandblast and router wooden techniques allow for a very rustic appearance.

Natural and green oak signs enhance our range of tactile and rustic signs. These materials and sign maker techniques allow us to produce cost-effective but dramatic wood or timber house signs, signs for parks, nature reserves and golf courses. Natural wood and timber signs, well designed and installed in appropriate locations are a delight to behold.

Case Study

In addition to engraved, sandblasted and routed timber signs Shelley Signs also produce benches and rustic furniture which can enhance and show the grain of the timber. A good example of this was a bench back produced for Chester Zoo. Used as an opening sign the timber was locally sourced from Marbury Country Park in Cheshire – a large Cedar that had been storm damaged and allowed to air dry. The resulting bench back was wany edged and supplied complete with the bark. The text was indented into the background.
