Overview of Product

With their wide range of production methods and techniques, Shelley Signs are ideally placed to serve the village signs market. Village signs must be of very high quality and of a standard to match the demands of both urban and rural villages – often signs to a village are the first thing a visitor will see and they must therefore set the standard to attract and retain visitors.

Technical Spec

Many villages will require a notice board or display case sign. This style of village sign is usually a hinged and lockable case, glazed with a shatterproof polycarbonate and supplied with either a pinboard or magnetic backer. Notice boards are ideal for displaying changeable information and for promoting specific events. It is recommended that notice boards and display cases are supplied as lockable units, with an approved keyholder as this limits the problem of fly-posters.

Often villages require signs on the main entrance roads. While normally needing to comply with traffic and Highways regulations village entrance road signs are normally supplied as flat panels with bolt channel and galvanised steel posts. While historically produced as black print on a white background the printers available today allow the reproduction of full colour crests, logos and images to create a distinctive and eye-catching village entrance sign.
Village greens and village centres often will boast a central welcome sign. These village signs are frequently mounted on a single oak or softwood post and can include intricate carved or routed images together with heraldic crests and images. The range of sandblasting techniques, hard carving skills, painting and full colour printing options allow Shelly to design and produce distinctive and personal signs for villages.

Many villages have a story to tell and interpretation panels are an ideal way to present this information to visitors in a simple and interesting manner. At Shelley Signs we offer a full service to villages looking to commission new signs and can design, illustrate, produce signs and lectern frames as well as install interpretation signs. Although we have an in-house graphic design team we are happy to work with your artwork supplied on disc.

Case Study

Billesdon Parish Council commissioned a series of entrance signs and interpretive panels for both their village centre and newly acquired community woodland on the edge of the village. An interesting slant was to use decorated, sandblasted benches to include some of interpretation. Decorated bench backs provide a discreet medium for interpretation and can be a fun way to produce village signs with a difference.
