Shelly Signs are a leading supplier of outdoor signs, graphics and printed displays with particular expertise in the field of nature reserves, country parks, open spaces and public areas. These signs and panels, commonly known as interpretive signs or interpretation panels, are produced and encapsulated into Glass Reinforced Plastic. Framing is commonly produced in either steel, timber or increasingly recycled plastic. Timber comes from sustainable sources and whenever possible is sourced from FSC suppliers. Steel is either mild steel, galvanised, or sprayed to an agreed colour. Stainless steel is also a common choice, especially for urban environments. Stainless steel can be produced using Grade 304 stainless or for coastal environments Grade 316 stainless.

Recycled plastic is an alternative environmentally aware choice. Recycled plastic signs for country parks can be used to manufacture vertical or lectern frames. Recycled plastic offers a good medium for routed text which can be infilled to an agreed colour. Finger posts or fingerposts are very effective in recycled plastic which can be used for both the vertical posts and the routed directional finger arms. Text is routed and infilled to an agreed colour. The recycled plastic arms are morticed into the plastic recycled posts in a similar manner to the conventional timber fingerposts.
Interpretive signs and interpretation panels are not best produced in recycled plastic but this plastic can be very effective for framing rural and urban educational signs.

Many interpretive projects in country parks and open spaces also require entrance signs and byelaw or by-law signs and panels. The entrance signs and byelaws are ideally produced in recycled plastic or plastic from recycled sources. Shelley Signs aim to source recycled plastic from UK suppliers to avoid importing recycled plastic from several European sources.

Recycled plastic provides an excellent medium for producing routed graphics. The softness of recycled plastic results in a deep and flexible routed letter and therefore an interesting and dramatic finish. Recycled plastic signs are usually brown or black but other colours can be produced at a cost. In summary recycled plastic sign, panels and waymarking signs can be produced in an environmentally friendly manner using plastic as a base. The recycled plastic signs and fingerposts can be produced in their own right for routed graphics or produced as part of a framing structure, either vertical or lectern, for housing printed graphics.

Signs and frames for country parks and nature reserves when produced in recycled plastic can blend well with other furniture including bins, posts, boardwalks and litter bins.
